Identity verification
Joining Mia Relay means proving you're a real, identifiable person — that's what keeps the network free of bots and impersonators. We use Stripe Identity (a quick photo of your ID plus a selfie) for a one-off £5 / €6, which covers up to three attempts in case a photo doesn't come out clearly. It's a one-time cost, never a subscription, and it doubles as another wall against spammers: a throwaway bot account isn't worth £5 and a verified identity.
Verification — £5, once
Verifying your identity costs £5, paid once. It covers the identity check itself, which we're charged for each time one runs, and it's what earns the verified tick other people rely on.
Introduction credits — £1 each
Reaching someone who isn't already a contact spends one £1 credit. The credit is spent when your message is sent — it isn't returned if they accept, and the recipient is never charged and never paid.
Credits don't expire. They aren't refundable, because sending is the thing you're paying for and it happens immediately.
Inviting people you already know is free
If you have someone's number or email, send them an invitation link instead. It costs nothing, and it always will — you could already have contacted them, so Relay isn't giving you reach you didn't have. Invitations are how most people will build their network here.
Why charge at all
Spam is profitable because sending is free. At a pound a message, sent or ignored, ten thousand cold approaches costs ten thousand pounds — and no volume discount makes that work. For one person reaching one individual they genuinely want to meet, it's a pound.
It isn't how we make our money. Filters have to guess at intent and get it wrong in both directions; a cost doesn't have to guess. We fund Mia Relay by selling it to organisations on Cloud and Enterprise plans — the pound is there to make the spammer's arithmetic fail, not to pay our bills.
What's included — for free
Unlimited voice calls, video calls, text and group messaging between your verified contacts. Multi-device sync. End-to-end encrypted private messages. No data caps, no per-minute charges, no premium tiers hiding the encryption or the screening behind a paywall. The service is free for individuals; we make our money from organisations on Cloud and Enterprise plans, not from you.
Your credits and your data
There's no subscription to cancel. Unspent credits stay on your account and don't expire. You can delete your account at any time from settings — we don't keep your message data afterwards.
