Terms of service

Last updated: 29 May 2026

By creating an account on Mia Relay you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, don’t use the service.

The service

Mia Relay is a messaging and calling service whose distinguishing feature is that strangers must pay a small refundable deposit (an “introduction”) to reach you. Verified identity badges, private groups, and open moderated rooms are part of the product.

Your account

  • You are 13 or older (16+ in some jurisdictions).
  • The information you give us about yourself is accurate.
  • You are responsible for keeping your password safe.
  • One person, one account, except where we explicitly permit multiple (e.g. business accounts).

Acceptable use

You agree not to use Mia Relay to:

  • Send spam, scams, unlawful threats, harassment, sexual content involving minors, or content that violates intellectual-property rights.
  • Impersonate someone else or misrepresent who you are. The identity-hide feature is for your privacy on your own device only; using it to deceive third parties is not allowed.
  • Attempt to break, reverse-engineer, or attack the service or the people on it.
  • Use the service to organise unlawful activity.

We may suspend or remove accounts that break these rules. Open rooms are moderated; moderators and we can remove messages and ban participants.

Payments

Introduction deposits are held in escrow by Stripe and are refundable per the rules described in the app. Once an introduction is accepted, the deposit settles. Once it is declined or expires, the deposit is refunded automatically. Stripe’s terms apply to the payment processing itself.

Content you send

You keep ownership of the things you send (messages, photos, ringtones). You grant us a limited license to store and transmit them as necessary to operate the service. We may remove content that breaks these terms or that we’re legally required to remove.

Privacy

Our privacy policy explains what we collect and how we use it.

Disclaimers

We provide the service “as is”. We aim for high availability but cannot promise it will never go down, never lose a message, or never be slow. To the maximum extent allowed by law we disclaim implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose.

Limits

We are not liable for indirect, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of your use of the service. Our total liability for any claim is capped at the greater of (a) the fees you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or (b) £100.

Changes

We may update these terms. We’ll change the “Last updated” date and, for material changes, notify you in-app or by email at least 30 days before they take effect. Continued use after the effective date counts as acceptance.
