Anyone who can reach you is verified
Nobody can start a conversation with you without having proved who they are. Accepting an invitation from a friend needs nothing — verification is what it takes to approach someone new. No throwaway numbers, no anonymous bots: everyone who can reach you is a real, identifiable person.
Strangers pay to reach you
Contacting someone who isn't already a contact costs the sender £1, spent whether or not you reply. One message to one person you actually want to meet is nothing. Ten thousand messages is £10,000.

End-to-end encrypted private messages — we can't read your conversations and we don't sell ads against them. Open rooms are the deliberate exception, and say so. (Calls are encrypted in transit, with end-to-end encryption on the roadmap.) Your trusted contacts are the product, not your data.

Spam works because sending costs nothing. Here it costs a pound a head, every time, with no refund for being ignored. That arithmetic doesn't work for a scam call centre — and it barely registers for a real person. The charge isn't how we make our money; it's the mechanism.
